I am a life-time resident of the Oklahoma City area, and a self-taught artist.  I am a watercolorist and scratchboard artist and have been developing my own method using transparent watercolor combined with scratchwork on a clay and inked, hardboard surface.  This involves lots of finely-detailed, time-consuming scratchwork followed by the introduction of transparent watercolor in a multitude of  successive layers.

The 2nd technique I’ve developed involves the use of a hardboard surface coated with textured kaolin clay.  This is a lovely ground for the use of watercolor and, although I do occasionally use this surface for traditional watercolor, the technique I’ve developed involves the overall painting of the surface with solid brown-toned watercolor and then removal of the dried watercolor with wet brushes.   This gives the look of an old sepia photo.

I also enjoy traditional watercolor on paper and love to use a combination of techniques.

My extensive travels throughout Africa, Europe, Russia, and the South Pacific have given me a myriad of interesting subjects to paint and draw; however, I find “everyday” subjects are sometimes the best.   I enjoy painting people, not only portraits, but people at work or engaging in hobbies.
